纽约州环境保护局和希芒县卫生部在11月1日下午发表声明，称一名参与没收的人员被松鼠咬伤。其在声明指，30年来，包括派恩城的纽约州南部地区都在浣熊身上发现狂犬病毒，并建议任何接触过松鼠或浣熊的人谘询医生[19]。

花生之死被MAGA运动视为2024年美国总统选举的十月惊奇，并将其归咎于民主党[20][21][7]，而特朗普的支持者将花生之死变成各种选举口号[22]。几名共和党知名人物谴责花生之死，一些特朗普支持者声称拜登—贺锦丽政府对于将松鼠等野生动物成为宠物的许可证过于严格[23][7]。纽约州州长凯西·霍赫尔和美国副总统贺锦丽均拒绝就该事件发表评论[24][25]。
